Northern California Ride to Eradicate Polio
El Tour de Tucson takes place yearly in Tucson, Arizona attracting 9000 bicyclists from all around the world. This year 114 cyclists registered with the Rotary contingent to participate by paying an entry fee and then raise money in support of their ride for donation to the Rotary International program to End Polio Now. The amount of money raised in November by the Rotary contingent including matches from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is $11,747,548.10.
On April 14, 2018, you will be able to participate in the 41st Tierra Bella Bicycle Tour in Gilroy, California. One of California’s top-rated cycling events with 2000 riders, the Tierra Bella has four different routes, from flat to hilly, you’re sure to find the route that’s right for you. The distances for the routes are 34.6 miles, 62.6 miles, 102 miles, and 124 miles. The Tierra Bella is a separate organization and is in no way responsible for the polio eradication contingent.
You should easily raise at least $1,000 which is set as the minimum amount to be raised by the riders since this is the first year we are doing this. Of course you set your goals as high as you like. There will be an entry fee ranging from $65 to $85 depending upon when you register. We currently have a reservation on 100 slots. We would need to fill them quickly or they will be open for all registrants after the other 1900 slots are filled – the 1900 will fill up quickly.
The question is, are you ready to commit to ride to do your part in the eradication of polio. There are hotels in the Gilroy area but participants are responsible for making their own arrangements. There will be a hot meal at the end of the ride. It will be run by the Rotary Club of San Jose East/Evergreen but all from any Rotary district or club worldwide are welcome to participate.
Please contact Charlie Wasser directly at firstname.lastname@example.org to register for the ride and not with Tierra Bella. That way we can easily keep track of the Rotary group.
